The Tree of Life is a recognition vehicle for SHCC’s Endowment Fund. The fund was established in August of 2010 to allow people to donate in honor or in memory of a loved one or friend, either alive or deceased, or in recognition of special events or occasions. Gifts to the fund shall enhance SHCC existing ministries or create new SHCC ministries outside of the general operating fund budget. The fund is maintained by the Memorial, Bequest and Endowment Committee. A permanent record of all gifts is maintained.
After Bud Kitchens’ death in October 2008, his wife Shirley wanted to remember Bud by providing a way to perpetuate the growth and vitality of the church that he loved. Shirley worked with the Board moderators and Memorial, Bequest and Endowment Committee for two years. After much thought, it was decided to purchase a Tree of Life.
On August 29, 2010, our Tree of Life was dedicated and its purpose was to recognize gifts as they were made to the newly developed Endowment Fund. It was Rev. Dr. Gary Byrkit’s long-time dream to have an Endowment at Southern Hills Christian Church.
As the Fund increases, the policy dictates that its proceeds are to be used “for purposes beneficial to SHCC which enhance existing SHCC ministries or create new SHCC ministries outside of SHCC’s general operating fund budget.” Recommendations for distribution of income of the Fund may be made through the Memorial, Bequest and Endowment Committee to the Leadership Council.
The Tree of Life recognizes gifts honoring persons, living or deceased, and recognizes special events or occasions. Donations of $500-$1,999 are recognized by an engraved leaf and donations of $2,000 or more are recognized by an engraved stone.
Donations may be made to the Tree of Life Endowment Fund through:
